Welcome! Prof. Roger Bales and Prof. Martha Conklin came for academic communication
Prof. Roger Bales and Prof. Martha Conklin were invited to give lectures on September 10, 2018, at Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Roger Bales gave a talk about “Making up for lost snow: lessons from a warming Sierra Nevada”, focusing on five aspects: mountain climate, water balance, snow monitoring, California drought conditions and water security. Prof. Martha Conklin gave a lecture focusing on the role of critical zones structure in moderating influences of snowpack loss on headwater meadows. After reports, Prof. Feng Xiaojuan discussed with Prof. Roger Bales and Prof. Martha Conklin. Finally, Dr. Li, Dr. Guan, and Dr. Jin gave talks about current research of our group. It is a good opportunity for researchers and students to communicate and learn about ecological hydrology field!
Prof. Roger Bales, Founding Professor of Engineering at UC Merced and director of Sierra Nevada Research Institute, has been active in hydrology, water and climate – related research for over 30 years. He is an Adjunct Professor at UC Berkeley, also he is a fellow in the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the American Meteorological Society (AMS), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Prof. Martha Conklin, a founding member of Engineering at UC Merced, focuses on high-elevation meadow; biogeochemistry; metal cycling; surface water/ shallow groundwater interactions; organic chemical distribution in soil and groundwater; and chemical processes in snow.
